Kompas.com is one of the pioneers of online media in Indonesia.
Initially, Kompas Online (KOL), which could be accessed via the website kompas.co.id, only provided a replica of the latest edition of Kompas newspaper. The goal was to offer a digital version of the daily newspaper to readers who were unable to access the print version at specific times of the day when it was being distributed.
With the launch of Kompas Online, readers were able to access the latest edition of Kompas daily, even before it was physically distributed in some areas. This innovation allowed more people to stay informed with the latest news, especially those who could not get the print version in a timely manner.
To further improve accessibility and reach, Kompas Online officially moved to its current domain, www.kompas.com, in 1996. Over the years, Kompas Online has evolved significantly, offering not only a digital version of the newspaper but also a wide range of online news and features, making it a key player in Indonesia’s digital media landscape.
